Taaleri Energia and Encro acquire 111MW wind farm in Croatia

Eastern Europe Journal 3 years ago

Finnish energy company Taaleri Energia has acquired the Zadar wind farm in Croatia through its Taaleri SolarWind II fund, in partnership with wind energy firm Encro.

Located in the county of Zadar, the 111MW wind facility features 25 Nordex wind turbines and will supply nearly 317GWh of clean energy a year to the Croatian grid.

The Zadar wind farm has the capacity to power around 85,000 households and offset around 78,000t of carbon emissions a year.

Taaleri Energia managing director Kai Rintala said: “We are delighted to be entering the Croatian market with our partners from Encro.

“Croatia has excellent renewable energy resources, and we are pleased to play a role in helping to expand Croatia’s energy independence.

“The Zadar wind project brings the number of investments from the Taaleri SolarWind II fund to eleven and demonstrates our continued commitment to South-East Europe as a key target market for our current and future renewable energy funds.”

Construction works at the Zadar wind farm site began in the second quarter of last year and the project is expected to come online in the fourth quarter of next year.

As the wind farm’s original developer, Encro will offer construction management and technical and commercial management services for the project.

Nordex will service and maintain the wind turbines under a 30-year contract.

Once operational, a significant portion of clean energy from the Zadar wind farm will be sold under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA).

Encro managing director Iljko Ćurić said: “Encro is pleased to have Taaleri Energia as a partner on the Zadar wind project, after having had the chance to develop a close working relationship with our colleagues from Taaleri during the past several years.”

Last November, Taaleri Energia purchased three wind farms in Lithuania through its Taaleri SolarWind II fund.
