Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has been involved in a frank exchange of views with former Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The duo attended the Economist Impact Fifth Thessaloniki Metropolitan Summit in Greece this week. The Thessaloniki summit was entitled ‘South-East Europe as a bridge of co-operation and growth’.

Greek businessman Marinakis and Johnson discussed the war in Ukraine. A clip showing a debate between the pair subsequently emerged on social media.

Politics Global posted the video on their X account and it has garnered more than 3.5 million views. Marinakis and Johnson had differing views over how to end the war.

In an exchange relayed by Metro, Marinakis said: “What I would prefer is for children to stop dying and let Russia keep some of this (Ukraine’s) territory and stop this war. That’s a fair compromise. Let’s stop the war.”

In response, Johnson suggested such a course of action could be seen as ‘weak’. He stated: “If we are weak now, we will pay for it later on.”

The discussion between the two men comes during a pause in action for the Reds due to the international break. Marinakis had been in attendance at the City Ground for Forest’s 3-0 defeat to West Ham United last time out.
