Dacia ranked largest company by revenue in South East Europe for fourth year in a row

Automobile Dacia tops again this year’s ranking of the largest companies in South East Europe by revenue, for the fourth year in a row. OMV Petrom, Romgaz and the Serbian chemical company Hip-Petrohemija overtaken Hidroelectrica, who went down to the fourth position.

A total of 51 Romanian companies are included in this year’s edition of the largest 100 non-financial companies in the southeast of the continent, produced by SeeNews. Slovenia has 13 companies, Serbia 12 companies, Croatia 11 companies, Bulgaria 10 companies, Bosnia and Herzegovina 2 companies and Macedonia one company. 

With revenues of EUR 5.02 billion, up by almost 12 percent compared to 2016, Dacia maintained the first place in the ranking.

The carmaker in Mioveni is followed by the Slovenian oil and gas company Petrol d.d., with revenues of EUR 3.79 billion. The podium is completed by OMV Petrom, which has exchanged seats with its own sales division, OMV Petrom Marketing.

OMV Petrom’s revenues rose by about 17 percent to EUR 3.53 billion, while the marketing division reported a slower growth of 4.3 percent to EUR 3.26 billion. Bulgaria’s Lukoil Neftochim Burgas stayed fifth with revenues of EUR 2.96 billion, up 28.8 percent, being followed by compatriots from Aurubis Bulgaria, a company that climbed 6 positions in the ranking after which reported revenues of about EUR 2.64 billion.

On the 7th place, from 9th in the last year was Rompetrol Rafinare, with revenues of almost EUR 2.49 billion, followed closely by the Slovenian electricity provider GEN-I, with revenues of EUR 2.46 billion. The top 10 largest companies in the region are complemented by the Croatian oil company INA, with revenues of EUR 2.44 billion and the Serbian energy company Elektroprivreda Srbije, with revenues of EUR 2.3 billion.

Kaufland Romania, ranked sixth in last year’s edition, came out of Top 10, ranked 11th, with a revenue of EUR 2.18 billion. Considered in terms of the profit reported last year, the ranking of the largest companies in South East Europe is headed this year by OMV Petrom. Romania’s largest oil company climbed two top positions with a net result of EUR 515 million, compared to a profit of EUR 200 million in 2016. In second place comes Romgaz, with a profit of EUR 398 million. The Romanian natural gas producer is followed by Hip-Petrohemija, Serbia, with a profit of EUR 342.5 million.

Hidroelectrica, the most profitable company in the region last year, went down to the fourth position. The company earned a net profit of EUR 291.8 million in 2017, up from EUR 270.3 million in the previous year.

For its 11th edition, SeeNews reviewed over 2,900 companies in Southeast Europe, namely Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia.
