Tema Energy, provider of data center technology, expects business to exceed €11 million this year

Eastern Europe Journal 3 years ago

Tema Energy, one of the largest data center technology providers in Romania, expects business to grow by at least 25% this year, compared to 2021. The growth is driven by the increasing construction of projects for local investors as well as from Europe and the US.

The company works on projects in the private and government areas, including the completion and installation of two large Data Centers in partnership with the company’s main vendors – APC by Schneider Electric, Vertiv, Cummins, Reichle & de Massari – as well as the another four to five smaller or medium projects, including mobile data centers.

“If three to four years ago we had plenty of 300,000 to one million euro projects, now we have more and more two to five million euro projects, which is an indicator for how the market is growing. If in 2018 – 2019 we were talking about data centers of 50 – 100 racks, now we are designing and building data centers of hundreds of racks and several MW installed capacity. For 2023 we want to see an increase of at least 10 – 15% compared to this year, which we see as possible because we already have a pipeline of projects worth several million contracted. At the same time, we are witnessing a great effervescence on the Romanian IT market, where more and more investors from the US, Europe, but also local investors, want to develop large projects”, says Mihai Manole, managing partner Tema Energy.

The manager estimates that the data center market in Romania will develop significantly in the next three to four years due to public and private projects that are now in the design or approval phase, but also due to an increased interest from large global data center owners (hyper scalers).

Romania – potential to become a regional data center hub. Cluster Power – the first data center in Romania accredited by the Uptime Institute in the US

Cluster Power data center built in partnership with Tema Energy near Craiova, has achieved Tier III TCCF Certification. This is the first time that a data center in Romania has received accreditation from the Uptime Institute, the world’s best-known auditing organization. It is only the third time data centre in South-East Europe has been awarded this certification, together with a data center in Greece and one in Hungary.

“This certification will draw the attention of the whole area to the local data center market and will greatly increase its attractiveness. Basically, similarly to the classification of the stock exchange, Romania has the chance to take a big step forward in these years and obtain an Emerging Market classification, get a higher rating and thus attract new, much bigger investments at a faster pace. This certification has therefore the potential to transform the Romanian market into a regional hub for digital infrastructure, namely data centers and associated colocation and cloud computing services”, added Mihai Manole, Managing Partner Tema Energy.

The Tier III TCCF (Tier Certification of Constructed Facility) certification has been awarded for the construction and execution of the data centre and attests that the Cluster Power project meets the requirements for installed capacity and provides diverse distribution paths for both power and cooling circuits and data. This ensures service availability of 99.982%/year, 24x7x365. Such data centers are essential for companies that need to host business-critical applications and data.

“During this certification, over the course of five days, a team of experts from the Uptime Institute thoroughly inspected the data center, performed operational tests, including troubleshooting and isolation scenarios for maintenance, and eventually they declared the data center to be in compliance and even exceeding the performance requirements of Uptime. This certification supports both the development of the IT and data center market, but especially Romania’s economy, by generating new opportunities at the regional level”, explained Cosmin Georgescu, CEO of Cluster Power.

Previously, in May of this year, during the Data Center Forum – an event organized by Tema Energy, it had been announced the achievement of Tier III TCDD certification, design phase. This certification attests to the projection of Cluster Power in order to meet all Uptime Institute criteria for data center infrastructure capacity to achieve performance levels related to capacity, distribution paths, and maintenance.
