Alpla strengthens role as system provider for South-East Europe

Eastern Europe Journal 3 months ago

The global packaging giant Alpla Group is cementing its position in the Balkan region, specifically targeting the high-growth beverage industry.

With the recent acquisition of the production facility of Serbian closure manufacturer Energoplast in Belgrade, Alpla is significantly strengthening its commitment to delivering comprehensive, high-quality plastic packaging solutions.

Alpla is recognised as a system provider, meaning it supplies plastic packaging—from bottles and containers to closures — all from a single source. This latest strategic move allows Alpla to further integrate its supply chain in South-East Europe, providing beverage manufacturers with a more stable and flexible partner.

The acquisition immediately expands Alpla’s production and range of high-quality plastic closures in Serbia.

Energoplast’s portfolio, which includes PE closures for the beverage industry produced using compression moulding and injection moulding, is now enhanced by Alpla’s extensive technological expertise.

Alpla is taking over the personnel, production lines, and existing business, ensuring a seamless continuation of activities for current customers.

Miroslav Micković, general manager of Alpla Serbia, emphasised the immediate benefits for clients: “Energoplast’s high-quality portfolio is the perfect addition to our business in the Serbian market… This will enable us to secure supplies for our customers and provide them with immediate added value and strategic advantages in the long term.”

The 2,000 square meter factory in Belgrade is now a key part of Alpla’s regional network. This acquisition reinforces Alpla’s already substantial presence, which now includes four plants in Serbia (two being in-house facilities at customer filling sites) and three additional plants across Croatia and Slovenia.

Rainer Widmar, Alpla managing director Central and Eastern Europe, highlighted the strategic importance of regional value creation: “With this strategic move, ALPLA is strengthening its presence in South-East Europe, promoting regional value creation and enabling it to meet growing demand in a targeted manner.”

This expansion ensures that both local and international beverage manufacturers benefit equally from high-quality closure solutions and short delivery routes.

For the food and beverage manufacturing sector, this signals Alpla’s commitment to offering reliable, complete packaging services.

Michael Feltes, managing director of the injection moulding division ALPLAinject, explained the vision: “We want to fully leverage our strengths as a system provider and score points with innovative solutions. This enables us to provide first-class, reliable service from design to complete packaging.”
