Ars Aevi Museum of Contemporary Art in Sarajevo, as an example of coexistence and creativity in South-East Europe
The Ars Aevi Museum will be a vital public space, accessible to everyone and dedicated to fostering respect for human rights and gender equality. As a cultural institution, it will be a platform for contemporary art, catalysing creativity and strengthening cultural and creative industries in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.
The Museum will be a social and educational space for art professionals, young people and tourists, as well as a meeting place and network for coexistence at local, regional and global levels. It is foreseen as a metropolitan institution and an important link in promoting the city as a cultural centre, raising awareness of the specific cultural location and promoting the tourism dimension of the country. Consequently, the city, the Canton of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina will receive greater institutional and professional resources and have the tools and capacity for protecting and promoting contemporary art and cultural diversity to contribute to socio-economic development.
The Ars Aevi Museum project promotes the role of the museums in education and sustainable development, as spaces for dialogue and promoting cultural diversity, in line with the UNESCO 2015 Museums Recommendation. During the MONDIACULT 2022, countries unanimously adopted a Declaration recognising culture as a global public good and calling for stronger synergy between culture and education.
This is the goal of the Framework on Culture and Arts Education being developed by UNESCO with its Member States, which is expected to be adopted at the World Conference on Culture and Arts Education convened by UNESCO in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from 13-15 February 2024.
